Kraftsman worked with Midway ISD to design and install two playgrounds at their elementary school: one for Pre-K to 1st grade students and another for 2nd to 5th grade students. The project also included the installation of concrete curbing around the playgrounds to provide a defined, safe boundary, as well as poured-in-place safety surfacing to ensure a soft, cushioned landing for children. In addition, the project featured a swing set, shade structure for sun protection, and benches for seating and rest areas.
The playgrounds are designed to foster physical, cognitive, and social development, offering age-appropriate play opportunities for students at different developmental stages. The Pre-K to 1st grade playground is equipped with lower structures, gentle climbers, and sensory play elements, while the 2nd to 5th grade playground includes more challenging equipment, such as climbing walls and slides, that help improve strength, coordination, and motor skills. The poured-in-place safety surfacing offers significant benefits, including a smooth, non-slip surface that helps prevent injuries during play. It is also ADA-compliant, ensuring accessibility for children with disabilities. This durable surfacing material provides a consistent, cushioned landing, absorbing impact and reducing the risk of falls or accidents.
The installation of the large hip shade over the playgrounds is another key aspect of the project. These shades provide vital protection from the sun, ensuring children can play comfortably and safely during warm weather. The shade also helps extend the lifespan of the play equipment by protecting it from sun damage, making the playground a more sustainable and enjoyable space year-round. This comprehensive design enhances the playground experience, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being for students, while ensuring safety, accessibility, and comfort.
